Brian Tyrrell

PhD Candidate, History, UC Santa Barbara

Brian is a PhD student in History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research lies at the intersection of environmental history, history of science, and history of technology. His dissertation examines thoroughbred breeding in the United States and how that project contributed to notions of biological inheritance. An interest in the history of genetics lies at the root of his research, which he will bring to the Center for Nanotechnology and Society by studying how scientists involved in DNA nanotechnology use biological molecules as the building blocks of nano-scale structures. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and his master's from Rutgers University-Newark.
