Dr. van der Veen, UCSB Physics Department, is an Assistant Project Scientist V with the Institute for Terahertz Science & Technology and Lecturer in the College of Creative Studies.  She works with George Legrady as a Science Advisor to help organize collaborations between scientists and artists on campus with the eventual goal of creating an exhibition of science in the campus art museum.  Her current research on science education focuses on: visualization and sonification of astrophysical data in 3D immersive spaces - application in research and education; arts-based teaching strategies to improve access to physics for all students; and learning astronomy in virtual immersive spaces.
