Joe was a CNS Graduate Fellow from 2006 to 2007  He received his B.S. from Northwestern University (2000), and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2003, 2007), all in Electrical Engineering. While at UCSB, Joe worked on Indium Phosphide photonic integrated circuits, including tunable all-optical wavelength converters and compact waveguide mirrors. He also taught in Santa Barbara's secondary schools as an NSF GK-12 teaching fellow and was a fellow with UCSB's NSF Center for Nanotechnology in Society. After receiving his Ph.D., Joe moved to Mt. Holyoke College where he worked with undergraduates on high-resolution thermal imaging of optoelectronics (2007-2009). He was a postdoctoral scholar at MIT before joining Infinera in fall 2011.
