Collins' Posters Cited by Risk Analysis Groups
Two posters created by UC CEIN Graduate Student Fellow and CNS-UCSB IRG3 researcher Mary Collins received $1000 awards from chapters of the Society for Risk Analysis in Southern California and Europe.
"A Nanotechnology Risk Judgment Analysis: Consumer Product Safety and Environmental Attitudes" won first place at the Southern California Society for Risk Analysis Conference held at UCLA in May 2012. The poster was based on research conducted by Collins, Shannon Hanna, Barbara Herr Harthorn, and Terre Satterfield. The poster presentations were judged based on their relevance to the meeting theme "Past, Present, and Future Risk Analysis," incorporated elements of risk analysis, interdisciplinary representation among the speakers, and new or improved research or approach to risk analysis.
The second poster, "Nanoremediation: Will Equity Concerns Arise?" received the award for the best poster presentation of the meeting at the Society for Risk Analysis-Europe Conference held at ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) in Zurich, Switzerland in June 2012. The poster was based on work done by Collins, Herr Harthorn and Satterfield. The award was given by the votes of an expert jury and conference attendees.
The Society for Risk Analysis is a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, scholarly, international society that provides an open forum for all those who are interested in risk analysis. The Society encourages those interested in all aspects of risk analysis to communicate, collaborate and develop new methodologies for risk analysis and risk management.
The Southern California Chapter of the Society for Risk Analysis (SCSRA) was formed in 1985 to address the unique needs of the area. SCSRA members come from a variety of backgrounds: private industry, regulatory agencies, academia, and consultants.
The Society for Risk Analysis-Europe (SRA-E) emphasizes the European dimension in the promotion of interdisciplinary research and education, and in practical application in industry and Government.
