Dr. Johannson was a CNS-UCSB postdoctoral scholar from 2009-2010. His dissertation on the cosmology of nanoscientists utilized lab ethnography as well as historical context to examine the “scientist's view” of nanotechnology.  His work notes the stark contrast between this lab perspective and the view of nanoscience as described in the public sphere.  At CNS, Mikael drew on his lab research expertise to develop a new nanotech project at UCSB, and worked in Interdisciplinary Research Group 1 (Origins, Institutions, and Communities) with W. Patrick McCray and Interdisciplinary Research Group 3 (Risk Perception and Social Response) with Barbara Herr Harthorn.

Mikael has now returned to the Dept. of Global Studies, Gothenburg University. He lectures part-time and is continuing his anthropological research on nanoscientists. His future scientific work will use his one-year CNS-sponsored  fieldwork to further the field  of cross-cultural analysis of nanoscientific research groups, including focus on concepts such as risk, laboratory space, and globalization.
